Are you sick of Christmas yet?
I’m not.
-
The baking starts this weekend.
As you can see from the picture above, I take my cookie decorating seriously.
-
I’m also headed over to my Dad’s house to help him set up his tree.
While I’m there, I’m going to try and dig out our collection of vintage Christmas LP’s.
Fingers crossed that they are not warped or too scratched to listen to.
-
Hope you have a festive weekend.

And finally, stocking stuffers for her.
I am drooling over those Sharpies.
-
Sharpie Markers, Sequin Heart, Rosebud Salve, 2011 Ornament, Bobby Pins, Hand Cream, Ring, Socks, and Sugar Daddy.
-
-
-
It’s the last day for gift guides.
-
I’m finishing things up with the hardest gifts of all – stocking stuffers.
I always struggle with stocking stuffers. I don’t want to spend money on junk. I want to buy things that will be used and enjoyed, but I also don’t want to spend a fortune. Christmas chocolates, scratch-off lottery tickets and essentials like new toothpaste and deodorant are staples with my family.
-
Here are some fun suggestions for him – although some of them would work for her too.
-
Boxer Shorts, Multipurpose Hammer, Socks, Bike Model, Extra Thick Hand Cream, Felted Soap, Key Fob, Dill Pickle Potato Chips, and Industrial Design Stamps.
-
-
-
Being prepared with hostess gifts is always important, not just during the holidays.
A warm bottle of champagne really is the best gift.
It feels festive and because it’s warm it sends the subtle meassage that it is not to be served at the party.
It’s something just for her – to say thank you for all her hard work.
-
If you’re not into champagne, I’ve got some other suggestions as well.
-
Paperwhites, Soap, Coffee Scoop, Sparkly Bird, Votive Holder, Champagne, Candlepot, Bottle Opener, and Truffles.
-
-
Now, for the ladies.
-
Slippers, Photography, Painting, Tea Pot, Honey, Tea, Locket, Clutch, Scarf, No. 5, and Bracelets.
-
-
-
Need a gift for one of your men – husband, boyfriend, father, brother, uncle?
Check out these options.
-
Travel Kit, Headphones, Coffee, Chocolate, Screwdriver Set, Tablet Cover, Scarf, Sweater, Watch and Shave Cream.

I’ve been admiring the clever and festive holiday garlands being offered this year. The more I see the more I fall in love. I shared one of my favorites with you already.
-
They are a beautiful way to add a pop of color or some whimsy to the holiday decoration mix. And I am so very happy to see that more and more garlands are being created with a natural feeling. In years past, I’ve felt inundated with glitter and bedazzled garlands every where I turned. I’ll go for a more homemade, understated look any day.
-
White Dove Garland, Mariana Button Garland, Felt Bunting, Many Mittens, Paper Doily Garland, Sari Garland, Cotton Garland, Felt Garland, and Pine Cone Garland.
-
-
I am spending the weekend knee deep in Christmas preparations.
-
I’ll be creating my list of gifts to buy and make, shopping for a Christmas tree, digging my decorations out of storage and trying some new drinking chocolate I picked up at Whole Foods. We’re expecting snow here, so it’s the perfect weekend for spreading a little Christmas cheer.
-
I love the simplicity of this garland by All We Need Is Oragami.
Perfect for my tree or mixed into greenery on a mantle.

There’s nothing like getting a fabulous book as a gift on Christmas morning. On Boxing Day you’re likely to find my whole family cozied up by the fireplace with our noses in a novel or thumbing through the pages of a new cookbook.
-
I also love giving books as gifts. There’s really no occasion where the gift of a book is not appropriate. I rarely give something other than a book to children – most kids don’t need more toys, but almost all kids will make good use of a new book. And the best part about it? It’s an easily exchangeable item. If the recipient has already read the book or isn’t interested in it, most bookstores will take the item back for credit. And who doesn’t want a credit at a favorite bookstore?
-
Above are some great book suggestions for giving or adding to your own wish list. A Visit From the Good Squad, The Art of Fielding, The Marriage Plot, As Always, Julia, My Bread, Plenty, Heart of the Artichoke, Undecorate, A Perfectly Kept House is the Sign of a Misspent Life, and The Right Color.

In other book related news, my quest to read 52 books this year is coming to an end. I read two more this week – Nurture Shock by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman and Kissing Christmas Goodbye by M. C. Beaton.
-
Nuture Shock was utterly fascinating. It’s a book about how we are raising our kids. Is what we are doing working? or backfiring? If you are a parent of a young child, I urge you to read this book. You may agree or disagree with what the authors have to say, but it will certainly give you something to ponder. It’s quite well written as well. Broken up into chapters covering different topics means you can just read the sections of the book you are interested in, if you’re short of time.
-
I read Christmas books at Christmas time. Most of them are not stellar. I’d put Kissing Christmas Goodbye in the average category. My biggest complaint is that there wasn’t much reference to Christmas. I felt a little misled that it was a ‘Christmas’ book. It really wasn’t.

Did you read the New York Times Book Review’s list of 10 Best Books of 2011? Have you read any of them?
