My family and I are in the midst of a big move across the country.

Things are a bit hectic.

I haven’t forgotten about you. And I’ll be back.

Just as soon as we get settled.

-

I’m popping in to tell you about my latest addiction – The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet.

-

It’s a celebrity interview program that is smart and thought provoking and genuine. She interviews people like Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane von Furstenberg, Alicia Keys and Jane Fonda. It’s not really that these women are celebrities that makes this show interesting – it’s that they are successful, experienced women who have a story to tell. And they do. Amazingly well. And the honesty will shock you. This is some serious. quality. television.

-

I think I’ve watched all eight episodes that are available online in 5 days.

How did I not know about this show? We’re my friends and sisters holding out on me?

-

If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here.

It will do so much more for your brain than another 50 minutes of The Real Housewives of Blah Blah Blah.

And if you’ve been watching it all along, why didn’t you tell me about it?

-

Speaking of excellent interviews.

Did you know Alec Baldwin does a podcast for WNYC called Here’s The Thing?

It’s so good!

Loved those street cars in San Francisco.

A most excellent feature of the urban landscape.

There’s nothing I love better in the summer than salads. Produce is at its most fresh and you don’t have to heat up the oven, so without a lot of effort or know how you can have a lovely meal on the table.  I made this salad this past weekend for a cookout. It made a good addition to the side dish options. Because there’s no lettuce it’s pretty sturdy if it has to sit on the potluck table for a bit. And I am always looking for a way to use up zucchini – summer’s most plentiful vegetable!

-

I bought some capers to add to this salad, but forgot to include them. I still think they’d be a welcome addition. I also find that this salad gets better with a little age – a couple hours or even overnight really helps the flavors to meld. If you’ve got some of the salad leftover, it makes a great topping for homemade pizza.

-

Chopped Ratatouille Salad

Serves 8 – 10 as a side dish

-

3  small zucchini

1 eggplant

2 red peppers

1 red onion

1 pint cherry tomatoes

1 clove garlic, minced

8oz  kalamata olives – pitted and chopped

1 cup parsley, finely chopped

1/2 cup mint, finely shopped

4 oz feta cheese, crumbled

olive oil

1/2 cup vinaigrette (homemade or my old standby)

sal & pepper

-

Chop the zucchini, eggplant, red peppers and onion into large bite sized pieces.

Sauté the chopped vegetables individually in a small amount of olive oil on medium high heat in a large skillet.

Cook the vegetables until they are tender but still firm. Don’t overcook them. No mushy zucchini!

After each vegetable is finished cooking add it to a large serving bowl.

Turn the heat on the skillet up to high. Add the cherry tomatoes and cook until tender. Again, avoid the mush.

Add the garlic to the tomatoes for the last 30 seconds of cooking.

Mix the cooked vegetables with the olives, parsley, mint, feta and vinaigrette.

Sample the salad and add salt, pepper and more vinaigrette to taste.

Serve at room temperature.

It’s been a long 10 days.

I came back from an exceptionally fun visit to San Francisco only to be met with the stomach flu.

And the bad news is that it is a lingering stomach flu. Days later I’m a little shaky and nauseous. Not fun.

-

I’m still not feeling great today, but I wanted to pop in and tell you about the movie I saw last night -

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

The movie was good. I certainly enjoyed it. Some of it was predictable. Some of it was not.

But the sets and the scenery were amazing.

The furniture, the textiles, the tile work, the architecture and the colors.

Oh – those colors!

 Seriously folks, heart stoppingly beautiful.

-

There was one sari – which I can’t seem to find an image of online – that I simply can’t get out of my head.

Vibrant pinks and greens and yellows and black.

Stunning combination.

-

I wish there were more images online from the movie to show you what I saw.

Perhaps, you’ll just have to see it for yourself.

I always think it’s smart to keep the finishes in your home neutral and clean -

especially if you like to roll with chroma fads.

-

There are many ways to add color to a space that don’t involve custom cabinets, paint, or tile work.

In fact, adding color through furniture and accessories enables you to change with the trends without turning your home into a construction site.

-

I’m loving these classic chair designs that are intensely colored.

The perfect way to add some pigment to a blank canvas.

Or to switch things up with the seasons.

How about yellow for spring and summer and pumpkin orange for fall and winter?

-

These pieces might just offer the shot of color you need.

Ready for Mother’s Day?

Most mom’s don’t need much.

Just a little something to let her know she’s appreciated.
